I have been following the desired changes for several months. As a non-developer, I already asked myself the question, won’t there be confusion with the abbreviations? If a developer certainly didn’t think about it before, just continued to work on his mistake, I’ll come back to my objection “monument”. See above. Nevertheless, the problem remains; timo timosen=t t, telekom tele=t t. At least 15 developers cavort on the Githup site, none of them noticed this problem?! shameful
I’m cheeky and lean far out of the window, I think money plays a role here. You only have to look at both apps in the store, both are identical. For one you only have to pay. It certainly won’t take long, then the development of k9 will be discontinued and users will have to change the app and will have to pay for the former full scope of k9
I just downgraded to
Version 8.0b3 (39007) - 20.10.2024
available at:
I kind of like the account selector thingie. ducks from various objects thrown my way
Granted, at first I thought it was a three headed alien.
I can be in one account’s folder or a unified folder done and ready to move, so tap the hamburger menu, tap the current account name, and immediately advance to the Inbox folder and the folder selection for the next account. No new messages? Tap the current account name again then advance to the next account, rinse and repeat.
I have about 16 accounts, so my left panel of circles is large and scrolls.
So, your circa 16 email accounts must have different two letters abbreviations, and I assume domain names all starting with different names.
I also assume you don’t have more that 16 accounts, otherwise you’ll run out of colours. For me, it’s difficult to differentiate between pairs of similar reds, greens, blues and purples!
Its great that you have the time to tap thru 16 accounts to see what is there. I think most users would prefer a simpler, quicker solution.
I don’t even look at the 2 letter abbreviations. I know the order of my accounts pretty well given the time I’ve had them. It’s almost the same action I did in the previous user flow in K-9 looking for new messages.
This change is completely useless for people who have multiple accounts in the same domain.
I feel that K9 users were drawn to K9 originally because 1 it’s open source and 2 it handled many accounts. Remember the lovely accounts summary screen, so simple.
It’s great that it’s being actively developed, but the devs seemed to continue to miss k9 unique selling point that engaged users in the first place. We don’t want Gmail, we happy with a different ui paradigm, it’s function over form which it in important.
I now that 4 of my 10 accounts with the same letters. One is a different domain completely but starts with the same letters. And 2 of which have the same colour. Thanks devs, you’ve made it nearly useless
BTW the colour doesn’t help identify the accounts if you are colour blind.
Is the a use forum for proposed changes?
Then I was right with my contribution here. Let’s stay true, “cketti” also promised us the “common inbox” years ago. It was only when asked that it was reported that development had been discontinued. Now the garbage with “TB Android”, I don’t think “cketti” anymore. My trust in k9 and developer is lost. Maybe there will be honest developers who will continue to develop k9 under other names. Have a good weekend.
Why did you delete your entry? You’re right. Please tell me your new mail app. Maybe also by private message. If you don’t want to say it publicly.
The 2-letter circle for the different email accounts has finally been sorted in the latest Beta!
It now uses the first 2 letters of the account name, which means you can change the name in order to better show which account is which. I changed the display name for GMX to GX, so that way it doesn’t look the same as a Gmail one.
I’d still prefer having the account pictures, but this is a start at least
For those with many accounts, this two letter change would not make much sense.
Look at the position of the two letter icons. I think it is very difficult to see. Besides, how much time is spent just to change these two letters?
Why not just bring back the account pull down menus, etc., but Cubish really seems to want to keep his ideas. He doesn’t listen to user ideas. I think that’s why both K9 and Thunderbird have become difficult to use applications.
