Hi
So if I un and reinstall K9 it will populate the address book with Android contacts name and email?
Thats a relief, as I have a need to do the above
Thank you

No. K-9 1) searches the Android address book and 2) gives you the option to save individual addresses to it if you want. But it does NOT populate the address book.

What is the problem you are trying to solve?

My K9 on Android is not receiving email (suddenly, out of the blue) and the only solution seems to be uninstall and reinstall.
Then I’d have to to repopulate the address book, having uninstalled the product.

This is about 10 years old, and I have zero recollection of how I did it initially, and less knowledge of computing generally as I get older…
Thanks
George

Please create a separate topic about this. But first please search the forum. Others have gotten a lot of help with similar/identical problem.

No, because K-9 does not have an address book at all. It just uses the Android address book, and the Android address book will in no way be affected if you remove/install K-9.

I recently change passwords for my ISP - service provider (ie. the server, I guess).
Thanks
Does email have the concept of a password? Maybe I should find and change that?

@George_Peters , this is a forum with many participants. Adhering to certain guidelines is good for you and the entire community.

  • Please troubleshoot and search for solutions on your own before asking here.
  • One problem per thread. Every topic here (a conversation with a headline) should be dedicated to only one problem. This means that if you have the exact same problem as a certain topic, the likelihood of you finding a solution to your problem is quite high.
  • Don’t hijack a topic: If a topic started by someone else is about a certain problem, don’t write in that topic about other problems. (This is what you just did now. )

As per your question about changed password: If you changed a password which affects receiving and/or sending of mail, K-9 will inform you and ask you to enter the new password.

Martin - this is the same problem. I cannot receive mail on phone, and was contemplating uninstall / reinstall as a solution, hence my initial question.
It was suggested to me that a recent password change by me (as a result of being scammed, hacked etc.,) may be responsible, potentially negating the requirement for uninstall / re-install.
K9 didn’t inform me of anything to the effect, that I must provide the new password.
I didn’t even know it was dependent on a pword.
A friend will assist me with this later today.
Thank you.
Thank you

Yes, an authentication check happens each time you get or send email.

In the account settings, there are two places:

  • Fetching email : Incoming Server
  • Sending email: Outgoing Server

each has a usrname/password combination, and if you changed your password on the server side, you should change it appropriately.

How can I use it in my android device?

You need to give K9 permission to use Android’s address book. Then it will use the mail adresses available in it, and IMO also allows you to add it as new contact. Not sure if also existing users can be altered.
