Unexpected option reset

I turn off all action confirmations in the general settings except delete starred. Since the latest update I’ve been prompted for confirmation when deleting from the notification. I see there is a (new? I don’t recall seeing it before) option in that section for delete from notification. I uncheck that box and I am no longer prompted as expected for the rest of that day. However, every morning since (3 or 4 days I think) I get prompted again when deleting from notification and have to go back into the settings to disable that confirmation, which is checked again.

What version of K-9? What make and model of phone? What version of Android? All these bits of information might make a difference in responses.

Sorry, I should have remembered to have done this up front.

K9 version 16.1, updated 9 February

Google Pixel 9 Pro XL

Android version 16 with 5 February 2026 security update.

It sounds like the app might not be properly committing the setting change to its database, or it’s getting overwritten during a background sync. One thing that often helps with sticky setting issues like this is to force stop the app and clear the cache (not the data!) after you uncheck the box. It might also be worth checking if you have any ‘battery optimization’ settings enabled for K-9, as those can sometimes interfere with how apps save state changes.

I’ve tried those suggestions. No luck. The only thing that seems to be sticking is to uncheck every possible confirmation, which I can live with. If I accidentally delete a starred item it’ll tell me in the folder list.

The issue has been fixed. See github ticket #10494 for more info.

The change can be testing in beta v18.0b1 and later.

Thanks, I look forward to the release

It’s good to see the development team identified this as a bug and already pushed a fix to the beta channel. If you aren’t comfortable running beta software, the stable release usually doesn’t lag too far behind once the fix is verified. It definitely sounds like a persistence issue with how that specific flag was being written to the config file.

Google Play says I’m on the beta but I’m only up to version 17 after my last update a couple days ago. Do I need to do something else to get beta releases? Thanks.

What version is displayed by the app in settings > about?

17.0 is a standard release version. Beta’s are labelled such on the app’s icon and version number.

Search the play store for ‘Thunderbird Beta’. 18.0b2 is current.

I guess it must be that I’m still using K9 that I’m not getting the betas any more. I’ll install the Tbird beta and hope it imports my settings
