Due to the anticipated evolution of Android and the associated risks (https://keepandroidopen.org/), would it be appropriate to consider developing a version of Thunderbird for Ubuntu Touch? What obstacles might stand in the way?
It’s an interesting idea from a user perspective.
If the Ubuntu Touch phone or tablet supports Waydroid, it might be possible to run Thunderbird Android already.
On the other hand, the linux version of Thunderbird desktop would be an interesting prospect.
I’d imagine a mobile friendly user interface would need developing.
You can raise your idea on Mozilla connect, though I’m unsure which platform it best falls under.
I’ve a feeling the mobile team have their hands full with Android and IOS developement.
Wishing you luck ![]()
Waydroid is often mentioned for running Android apps on Ubuntu Touch.
As a Waydroid user on desktop Debian/KDE, I have doubts about the processing power available on most phones to ensure a smooth user experience …but perhaps Waydroid on Ubuntu Touch can be surprisingly lightweight.
