how do I turn off the recent forcing of grouping emails into one “conversation”. I prefer each email on a thread to be a separate entry.

This URL doesn’t tell me how to find the way in K9 to change to unthreaded view. It merely says you can do it:
Threaded View: The specific setting that, when enabled, groups related messages or posts into a single conversation “thread.” This helps users follow a discussion chronologically and prevents their inbox from being cluttered with individual replies.
Where in settings is this ability?

The setting is where I described above. 
The Hamburger Menu is the three horizontal lines in the top left corner of Thunderbird, so I guess it is in the same place also in K-9 Mail. It is called that because with a bit of imagination it looks like a hamburger.
