what happens if I mark a mail as spam? it disappeares in the inbox, but what else? does k9mail has a learning spam filter?

The mail is moved into the spam folder (defined in the settings). That’s it on K-9’s side.
Your mail server might learn from mails in the spam folder, however on most servers this has to be configured and is not enabled by default.
