Show both unified inbox and folders

I use K9-mail 14.0 to manage 2 e-mail accounts A and B. In previous versions (I can’t remember which one precisely), the left panel used to show the unified inbox (A+B) together with folders of account A (or B depending on the last selected account).

Now I must chose between :

  • a “unified account”, whatever it means (it is the unique folder inbox A+B ?)
  • account A with its folders
  • account B with its folders

Moreover, switching between these three options seems to be harder and harder with releases: the panel gets bigger with a useless circle and it is hard to reach the little ᐯ with the left hand (see picture below).

How can I get back the old behavior?

Hi mate,

Me too ! I found this more complicate. I use K9 for 3 mails boxes. It was very useful just tap on the left and to can see if there is new mail or not and to switch between boxes. Now you have to touch more to see what happens in others mails boxes.

Normally, they need to keep access easily with this update, it’s totaly the opposit.

Guy from k9 team, please find a solution to keep this simple :folded_hands:t4::folded_hands:t4:

Thankss

For a percentage of users, the side rail removal is less than optimal. There’s many forum and Github posts (Ex1, Ex2) reporting this so the developers will be aware.

Suggestions to provide a setting to give users the choice or “go back to the way it was” have been well posted.

Beyond these, what alternative ideas can we suggest which reduces friction switching accounts while complimenting the current UI.

Clicking the circle to toggle between the last 2 selected, or user defined accounts is one idea I have.

Circle

The “Circle” account identifier is actively being developed to allow users to select an avatar, icon or image of the their choice. This was a highly requested feature.

Unified Accout

Yes, unified inbox contains emails from account inbox’s A+B. Emails from any other account folder can also be enabled to appear in the unified inbox. You can turn this off if you don’t use the feature and save an extra step.

It’s on the road map to enhance the unified account view to include unified outbox, sent, draft, spam and trash, in addition to the current inbox. The UI was changed in preparation for additions coming down the line. The road map shows no ETA yet. This is the reason why there’s no other folders currently under unified Inbox.

Thank you for your detailed response! In my case (very specific, I agree), the old behavior appeared to be perfect as I only need to see A’s folders together with the unified inbox, B being an old “receive-only” account.

In my opinion, ideally, it would be possible to configure exactly which folders, from which accounts, are displayed on the panel.

In each account, the Manage folders option just above settings will show your folders. From there, you can select which you want to see in the Unified view.

Agreed. Can someone tell me the point of this enhancement? One of the reasons l chose K-9 was because of its handling of multiple mailboxes. I am far from alone in having more than 1. Now l have to go into each to see what is happening. Can you just give me a Classic View? Of all the changes l might have wanted, more work wasn’t one of them.
