Sending email to addresses not in Contact list

I’m trying to send an email to people who are not in my address book, but I do have their email address.
What is the format to do so? If possible in the first place.

Just open compose mail and enter the email adress into to To: field (or Cc: / Bcc: if you extend the dropdown)

The thing is that it doesn’t work with multiple email addresses. I get the message (translated in English:) “The recipient is not (fully) entered”. Hence I cannot send it. What would be the character to put between addresses?
