No Send button in K-9 Mail 18.0

Since upgrading to version 18.0, I no longer have a Send button in draft emails - see screen capture below. Has it been cunningly hidden in the new version or is this a bug?

Dave

No issue like that here. Latest 18.0 TBird, Oneplus 9 Pro, Matrixx A15 and all buttons are present and accounted for :woman_shrugging:

Are yours not there or just not visible in that white theme? Maybe try with Dark theme?

Changed from default theme to black theme and buttons reappeared, then changed back to default theme and buttons still visible. But as you can see in the above screen capture they weren’t there before I did that. Very strange. Hope they stay visible from now on!

Probably just some graphical glitch - fingers crossed for you :crossed_fingers:

No the Send button disappeared again shortly after I last posted - and it’s not just graphical because if I clicked where the Send button should be, nothing happened. Again, changing to the dark theme fixed it, and after changing back to the default theme the button stayed visible, initially - but I don’t like the dark theme and I don’t want to have to change to the dark theme and back every few hours. Any idea how to troubleshoot this?

As well as no Send button, there is also no Attach button and no Menu button in draft emails, when I use the system default theme or the light theme. And nothing happens when I click where those buttons should be, so it’s not just graphical.

Switching to the dark theme and back always fixes it temporarily but only for a few minutes. And I never had this problem before version 18.0.

I’m using a Galaxy S7, which only supports Android 8, which might be relevant?

Afraid not, I’d never use any light theme so I have no clue what could be causing it or how to fix it. Hopefully someone else will know :crossed_fingers:

I reported it as a bug here more than 24 hours ago but it still has a status of “Unconfirmed” and no one has responded. How long does it normally take for the developers to respond to bug reports?

I see someone has responded on the bug report page saying they are experiencing the same problem. So it’s not just me, and it must be affecting a lot more people than just two of us. If it’s affecting anyone who’s reading this, please could you post on the bug report page, as the more people who do so, the more likely it is that this bug will be fixed.

Many thanks

Dave

The bug has got even more serious in K-9 Mail version 20.0 - I now no longer see a Send, Attach or Menu button in draft emails even when using the Dark theme.

I suspect it’s to do with the fact I’m using Android 8, which is the latest version of Android that my phone supports. But lots of other people have old phones and have to use Android 8, so this bug must be affecting a lot of people and needs to be fixed. If you have this problem, please post on the bug report page.

Dave

Unfortunately, it sometimes comes to a point in which old versions are no longer supported. I had an old smartphone that would not update beyond Android 7, and one critical app was updated to where it just would no longer function. I am on Android 16 on my new phone and the latest chomeOS on my Chromebook (where I also have K-9 installed), with K-9 20, and I have no problems (once one IMAP installation issue was quickly resolved). The way of the world, sad as it may be, is that eventually it sometimes comes to the point of keep up or fall behind. There are few buggy whip manufacturers left in the world. Eventually some apps may no longer be supported on archaic versions of operating systems. Sorry.

Hi @slyphnoyde Is this an official statement on behalf of the developers?

Dave

No. This has been my own experience in life over the years, not any kind of official statement of the developers. But I have dealt with various instances in life in which it is a matter of keep up or fall behind. Often that’s the way it is, an unfortunate fact of life.

That’s up to the developers. There are a large number of people suffering from this bug so please encourage as many as possible to post on the bug report page, as several already have. It doesn’t help anyone if you discourage them.

Many thanks

Dave
