I have to reset this every time I start the app. Furthermore the setting can only be found by going to General Settings / Display and searching for ‘font’. It can’t be found by browsing the settings menu.
Is this a bug? It’s driving me nuts.

Actually this happens since v.14 already - the ‘Font Size’ suddenly disapeared. I am still on v.13 cause for me font size is essential.
I wish I’d not updated, a decent font size is essential to me too. There seems to be a certain lack of urgency in dealing with this issue which seems to be important to a lot of users.
Export all your settings - uninstall - install v.13 - import your settings - et voila - there is your font size again ![]()
Done,
I’m a happy bunny again. ![]()

Just wondering how I tell when this has been fixed in the release version. Think I might install Thunderbird beta and check it after each update whilst using K9 v13 every day.
Thanks for your help.
Where are we getting the older version apps from?
My concern is if we don’t keep voicing this concerns no one who is developing the app is actually going to understand what they are impacting on our long term users.
Is there anyone we can actually provide feedback to on the interface changes so they stop making changes which make the app unusable.
It’s becoming a replica of Gmail more and more and loosing all the useful customisations.
You’ll find the older versions of k9 and Thunderbird here;
Ver 13 is on page 2 (scroll down).
You’ll also find the devs if you’d like to post. It seems this “feature” was removed so that they could implement some other changes. Hmmm.
Per the developers comment here
We’ve removed these settings as part of the ongoing UI redesign, since the previous way of changing font sizes no longer works with the new design system. We’re working on alternative options to bring back some customization in a future update.
The message view redesign is in progress and you can see their draft ideas on topicbox here.
Font control (#9709) is noted as a sub-issue for this activity. See Epic here.
You can read more about the 2026 mobile roadmap in the state of the Thunder blog linked below.
Thank you, I’d seen that before but couldn’t find it again at the time of my last post.
I think the point here is that maybe more thought should have been given to the roadmap before a feature was removed which makes the app unusable for a proportion of users, we don’t all have 20/20 vision. Eg Maybe the UI development could have taken place solely in a beta release? Possibly not practical but an idea.
What is clear is that restoring the ability to set a preferred font size should be top of the priority list, not a sub issue
The team wouldn’t have removed the font control without due consideration, and have articulated the reason behind the decision.

Being a sub issue doesn’t indicate a lower priority, It’s just one of many tasks & features to be completed as part of the overall message view redesign, which is a top priority (P1) as noted in the blog video.

But apparently no consideration of what it might mean to those with reduced vision. For example, they could have made the default font size larger. This would have inconvenienced those with good sight but not stopped them reading their emails.
In the meantime I shall stick to V13, I’ve blocked F-Droid updates of the app and will monitor Thunderbird beta for changes.
