Mail failed to send (but didn't)?

Keep getting error messages/notifications saying mail failed to send and then sent email still in outbox, even when the message actually delivered to the recipient. Has been happening frequently for the last couple weeks; mainly when there are attachments. Android, latest version.

I have used K9mail on my mobile device. About 29 days ago, when I try to send an email via the app I started receiving error messages saying the “Error: Sender refused.” It happened almost immediately after sending. My phone is a Pixel 9 Pro XL running Android 15. Online, others are having the same issue with using Optimum Online services.

It is set for POP3. I verified the username and password and both Fetching mail and Sending mail plus verification. I’ve checked that the inbound and outbound servers and ports are correct. Email sent anywhere even to the same domain fail. I verified username and password with the providers webmail and they are correct. I can send email from the web on my laptop/desktop via outlook without any issue. I am receiving email but cannot send any new emails. A bunch of reboots of the phone and no change/improvement.

I can send email from the web and devices running Outlook.
