K9 stopped connecting to my email server

The last time k9 connected to my mail server was September 21st 2024. I have k9 8.2 running on Android 14 on a Samsung Z-Fold 3. My email server is EXIM4 running on dabien 6.0 Attached are screenshots of my incoming server setup and the error.

It’s as the error message says: You have an issue with the boringssl library. If you search the forum here, you will find similar boringssl issues. Generally, due to outdated openssl on the server (boringssl dropped older ssl and fixed some issues due to wrong implementation of named entities in chains).

Quick fix: upgrade openssl and create a new key + key chain.

I’ve been having this issue since last August. I reached out to my email provider, and they responded back that their server currently supports TLS 1.2. Also the server switched from using “SSL/TLS” to “StartTLS”, but I still get the same error after switching to StartTLS. As far as I can tell, I think BoringSSL still supports TLS 1.2, so I can’t figure out why I keep getting this error?

Are there any logs or anything that can help get better info about what specifically is triggering this error?

I wonder, could this error happen for some other reason, like not being able to connect to the mail server because, for example, a firewall was blocking traffic?
