K9-5.600 for Android 4.4.4

Hello:
New member and happy to have found this forum.

Background:
I am in the process of reviving an old (ca. 2017?) Android 4.4.4 tablet of CN OEM origin and gifted to me recently, in pristine condition with the battery lasting quite a bit.

As I would loathe to have it seen thrown into a bin/landfill I set out to see just how much
Googlish bloat I could disable/uninstall and have been quite successfull.

Everything runs snappily (when all the bloat is [apparently] not running) in spite of the tablet’s scanty resources.
ie: ARMv7 r5 (v7l) - 512Mb RAM 4Gb storage | 802.11 b/g/n | MicroSD | MicroUSB

I found [fennec_68.5.0] to use as a browser and then [k9-5.600], the latest version compatible with Android 4.4.4, I don’t plan on using it to browse the web or do any home banking, the idea is that the tablet be as useful as possible.

K9 is working properly but I have run into an issue that I don’t know if should adscribe to something related to the application’s version or to my not using/configuring it as it should be.

I’ll try to be as precise as possible by describing it what I do in steps.
It’s like this:

  1. I receive an email in my one of my email accounts set up with K9.
  2. I can see it via webmail and with the Pegasus Mail client my Linux workstation.

I don’t open it with webmail or open/download a copy with Pegasus Mail.
I leave it untouched, I just check it is there, unread.
ie: not marked as read

  1. I open K9, sync manually and a copy of the email is downloaded to the tablet, leaving the original email in the server, just as I configured it.
    ie:
Account settings → Erase deleted messages on server → Manually

  2. I then completely delete the downloaded copy including emptying [Trash] so
that no ttrace is left behind in the tablet’s account.

  3. I then check with webmail and Pegasus Mail to confirm that the
original email is still there, same as before. ie: unread.

From what I gather, at this point it would/should be like if I was starting again in step 3.
ie: I open K9, sync manually and a copy of the email is downloaded to the tablet

Right?
No.

What happens is that when I open K9 and sync manually again, it does not see the original email which (as checked) is still in my account’s [Inbox], unread and a copy does not get downloaded to the tablet.

Should it be this way?

Then, on a hunch, I ran a test:

If (using webmail) I move the email to another folder eg: [Sent],
then move it back to [Inbox] and check mail again with the tablet, it
will then see the email and download a nother copy to the tablet.

It seems that moving the email out of the [Inbox] and then moving
it back in changes something in the email’s flags/markings but I
have no idea what or how.

Q:

  • is this the expected behaviour?
  • does it depend on how K9 is configured?
  • I have checked and this happens whether K9 is configures as IMAP or POP3/SMTP.

This being so keeps me from being able to look at some specific emails I have archived and need to look at every so often, usually confirmation emails from forums I have joined and such.

I’d appreciate your input on this.

Thanks in advance.

Best,

JHMarx
