Google had this to say;

“Someone just used your password to try to sign in to your account from a non-Google app. Google blocked them, but you should check what happened. Review your account activity to make sure that no one else has access.”

It’s patently obvious it is me accessing it. Any ideas?

Gmail uses “normal”, not “encrypted” passwords. Additionally, you have to use an “app password” for “3rd party apps (that don’t support OAuth)”, not the one you use for their webmail interface. See:

Njeyaakili - It was all good until yesterday. A bit of a faf dealing with each device separately but all done now. Thanks greatly for the help. Much appreciated.
