K-9 doesn't notify when mail arrives

Hi,

Email arrives in my pop mailbox, but K-9 doesn’t notify, or show, until I manually refresh. It then sounds that email has arrived.

I’m running Android v16.

I did run a search on here but didn’t find an answer.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What version of K-9 Mail? What are your POP settings? The more detail provided, the more likely it is that someone can assist.

Hi,

I’m running v 16.1

Pop settings were from the provider. Mail.provider.co.uk

SSL/TLS

Port 995

HTH

Hmmm, I don’t know what the issue might be. Maybe someone else might be able to assist. I am running K-9 Mail on a Chromebook (which can run some Android applications), v16.1. I have two accounts, one IMAP (Yahoo) and one POP3. The POP3 account seems to have the same settings you have, SSL/TLS 995, together with Normal password and Client certificate none. I have Folder poll frequency set to Every 15 minutes (which I think is the maximum Android allows). Everything works fine for me, and incoming POP3 mail puts an indicator on the K-9 icon in the task bar, but things may be a little different from phones and Chromebooks. Let’s hope someone else has some ideas.

Thanks. Yes, it’s weird.

I moved from the native Samsung email program which worked fine, notifying when a message appeared. I switched to K9 because the native app did not allow ssl.

I’ve tried K-9 on a Samsung tablet and I get exactly the same.

The topic is misleading. Based on the description of the issue, mails are not synchronised. The notifications themselves work (as stated: after a manual synchronisation).

Have you checked whether K-9 is exempt from battery optimisations and if a synchronisation intervall (e.g. 30 minutes) has been set? Is background data allowed for K-9? Further, if applicable, push has been enabled?

Hi, thanks for the response. Sorry if it’s misleading, but I don’t know how else to describe it.

Where do I find the exemption from battery?

The synchronisation interval is set to 15 minutes.

Where do I find background data setting?

Where is push enabled?

Thanks in advance.

It depends on the flavour of your Android distribution.

On Pixel devices and such with almost vanilla Android, you can find the app setting under Settings → Apps → See all apps.

There, tap on K-9 and find settings such as

  • Mobile data usage → Background data
  • Mobile data usage → Unrestricted mobile data usage
  • App battery usage → Allow background usage → unrestricted

Thanks,

I set that, and time will tell.

Where is push notification set?
