IMAP synchronisation with Thunderbird again

Hello everyone

I posted about K9 not synchronising last year as I only use it when on holiday. Now I’ve just come back again and had the same problem.Old messages that were deleted off various servers up to a year ago are still in K9 even after I ask it to synch all accounts

New messages however that I delete in K9 are deleted from various servers though as expected.

It could be that these messages are so old that either K9 or the servers are not processing them correctly any more. Either way, it’s a pain as each message has to be deleted manually from K9

Any (new) ideas please as to a possible cause?

Navigate to settings > account name > fetching mail?

Check that “Sync Server Deletions” is toggled ON.

It removes messages from the app when deleted on the server.

Thanks Zeriod but it’s not that as I’ve checked this setting again for all the accounts and it is ticked for “on”

And so is “Sync messages from any time (no limit)”

Are the emails in a custom folder, not Inbox.

If so, is sync enabled for the folder on the manage folders page.

Have you tried capturing and reviewing the debug logs from the app. That’s the best way to see what the apps doing behind the scenes.

  1. Toggle debug logging on from settings > general settings > debugging.
  2. Perform a full sync of all accounts.
  3. Return to the debug log screen > three dot menu > export logs
  4. Examine the logs

On the various servers, they are either deleted directly from the inbox/sent folders or sometimes moved to another folder

The sync log that I got thanks to you has no glaring entries starting with “Error”

My take on all this is that it’s nice to have various options where you can synch some folders and not others, but there should also be a button to synch all folders on all servers, instead of having to tick/untick multiple boxes for various servers in order to achieve this.

That is surely what most users want, even though I’m not convinced that this is a user problem. I think it’s a K9 problem rather as I’ve checked so many boxes again and again
