How to change the password of an account

Hi I have 3 accounts from wich I read mails with K-9; now one of these has changed his password, so K-9 cannot read the emails; I cannot find how to tell K-9 that the passworrd of this account is changed, please help me.
Thanks ermanno

Easiest way might be to just delete + add that account again, I can’t find an option to change the pw either.

Account settings > Fetching mail > Incoming server > Password and/or Account settings > Sending mail > Outgoing server > Password. Press the ‘Next’ button to test and save the changes.

Hi cketti,
thank you very much, with your help now I can read my mail.

With a Hotmail account, there is no box for password. It uses OAuth2, which diverts you to a browser to authenticate. When it stops working, the only way seems to be to delete and re-add the account.

Wow, Microsoft makes this complicated. Most other major sites, like Google, would show your devices connected and let you disconnect just one.

In one’s Microsoft Account, Security settings, there’s a “Sign out of Everywhere” option, but it says it might take 24 hours. I assume that kills all your sessions, and may not be ideal.

That might do it, at the cost of time if it really takes 24 hours. They don’t make this easy unless I’m missing something.

Just today, I hadn’t synced my Microsoft account in a while in K-9, and had to re-authenticate. There is some idle timeout for OAuth2 connections.

It’s such a common point of confusion because most people expect to find the password setting under ‘Account Settings,’ but since K-9 treats the incoming and outgoing servers separately, you really have to dig into those ‘Fetching mail’ and ‘Sending mail’ sub-menus.

If anyone is still having trouble after updating both, it’s also worth checking if your email provider requires an ‘App Password’ instead of your main account password - especially for Gmail or Outlook accounts with 2FA enabled.
