I don’t recall EVER seeing so many negative, sometimes almost hateful, comments regarding a software update. The complaints about the new UI for K-9 Mail are almost unanimous.
I am using K-9 v. 6.804 on a Dell Latitude 5400 Chromebook with the latest chromeOS updates running Android applications. I know that the appearance, and possibly a few functions, may be different on a Chromebook compared to a smartphone. Nevertheless I have been very satisfied with K-9 for some time now.
My setup has two email accounts, one POP3 which I set up before I ever knew anything more about IMAP than how to spell it, and one Yahoo, which is IMAP (I used the automatic setup).
With so many, almost unanimous, complaints about the new K-9 version, I want to stay with 6.804. However, I am an elderly, not very technically adept, user. Is there some way I can prevent automatic updates of K-9 on a Chromebook that anyone knows of? TIA.
Thank for the response. I found a setting, although I am not sure whether it applies to what is currently installed already or any new version (I.e., 8) I might install subsequently. I unchecked the auto update feature and will see if that keeps K-9 from updating.
I may have spoken too soon. Just a few minutes ago, a Google Play notification popped up on my Chromebook that four updates are available. One of them was specifically K-9 Mail. Obviously I did not let the update go through. So apparently clearing the box on Google Play did not prevent a potential update from appearing.
That setting doesn’t prevent you from being made aware of the update being available, but it does prevent it from installing automatically. Since that was your stated goal, I don’t see what you describe as posing any problem. I use that option on my apps that are installed from F-Droid and also available in Google Play to prevent Google Play from trying (and failing) to update them.
