Can't reinstall K-9 Mail

K-9 Mail was repeatedly crashing, so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it.

First I exported my K-9 Mail settings.

Then I uninstalled and reinstalled K-9 Mail.

Then I opened K-9 Mail and selected “Import Settings”. I selected the settings file I’d previously exported and selected “Import”.

It then asked for the server passwords. I typed in my incoming server password, (which I found by looking it up on my Thunderbird desktop client), selected “Use same password for outgoing server” and touch-clicked OK.

It then said “Settings successfully imported. I clicked Next, and clicked “Allow” when asked whether to allow access to my Contacts.

It then displayed an Outbox folder and no other folders - screen capture below.

Could this be because the passwords I entered were pre-oauth? I don’t understand oauth at all.

How can I get K-9 Mail working with my gmail account again?

I resinstalled again but this time I didn’t import my settings, I just followed the new account prompts and it worked, But I then had to reconfigure the settings as they had been previously, which isn’t ideal.

Any idea why importing the settings file doesn’t work, when creating a new account and following the prompts does? Is it something to do with oauth and if so is there any workaround apart from not exporting and importing the settings file any more?
