Answer get lost when turning

Hi,

When I write an answer in portrait mode, then turn the device to landscape and back to portrait, the answer is lost. This can also happen, when I put the device down and by doing so accidentally turn it. It also doesn’t saves it as draft.

This is very annoying.

Hi. This has come up before. See Writing new email and turning phone sideways destroys email - #3 by martinleben

Can you “save as draft” from the … buttons before doing the action where you lose your draft?

Hi,

first sorry for not replying to your messages, I didn’t reallized there was one. The exact error seems to be solved. But there is still a similar issue. When I use the contact app from Samsung, select all members of a group and try to send them an email. K9 opens and again when turning the device (Galaxy S23) K9 stops(crashes) and I’m back in the contact app. The mail was not saved as draft. The problem doesn’t happens if I use the Google version of contact. And yes I can save it as draft before turning.

Greetings Dimitri

Hrm. I’d guess that the Samsung Contact app isn’t doing the same thing as Google Contacts does, and K-9 falls over. Probably a Samsung bug/design flaw.

Hi, I’m not so sure, that it’s an error in the contact app. For multiple reasons :

  1. Similar errors acured in K9 without using the contact app, see above.
  2. I know from my little android programming experience, that turning the device restarts the apps, I’m not sure what happens when one app started an other. Does contact and K9 are restarted, or only the one who has the focus (K9) , or does only contact is restarted by android and has to restart K9. Only in the last version could it be an error of contact. But the main problem is not, that K9 doesn’t restart, but that it doesn’t react to onSaveInstanceState. And I think, this can only K9 do
  3. About every other time I get an error message telling me that K9 was stopped because of an error, and that I should install an update as soon as it is available.
