Android 16 , problem with New Ringtone selection

I have a problem with selection of sound notification in K9

Android 16 ColorOS 16
Oppo Find X9 Pro

Previous phone Samsung S20 Android 13

On trying to select my preferred notification sound in K9 New mail Ringtone, I am only offered… Follow System, Classic sounds, Nature Sounds. The normal Custom selection is not offered.

In my other APPs in this phone I am offered Custom Sounds.

Only seems to a problem with K9(Version 18)

No problem on my previous phone.

Can anyone help?

I can replicate the same behaviour on my Oneplus phone with Android 15 and it only happens when tapping K9’s “New Mail Ringtone” option.

There are two other ways to successfully set your custom tone.

Option 1 (K9 settings)

  1. Scroll down to notification categories (same screen as new mail ringtone).
  2. Tap “messages”.
  3. Tap “ring”.
  4. Select ringtone (custom selection available).

Option 2 (Android settings)

  1. Navigate to Android settings > apps > K9-Mail > manage notifications
  2. Tap “messages” under the label name of your mail provider.
  3. Tap “ring”.
  4. Select ringtone (custom selection available).
