Refresh stuck in loop

When i refresh to see if there are new emails, k9 loops continuously and never brings in new email messages. I have to reboot my phone to stop it.

Nobody can help you without knowing any details, like phone, android version, K-9 version, your server settings and most importantly - a log.

Thank you - I am a total neophyte and appreciate your direction.
Phone: Samsung S20
Android version: 12
K9: Version 6.000

I have seen similar symptoms on a Pixel 4a, Android 12, K-9 6.202. I noticed that the phone was hot with K-9 using 26% of the battery. I had a good LTE connection but K-9 was not downloading any mail. I managed to recover K-9 using App Info/Force close, at which point it downloaded mail and continued to work normally.

The debug log showed a lot of:

08-24 15:37:14.649 10399 10423 I com.fsck.k9: WaitForGcToComplete blocked Alloc on Background for 9.289ms

and just before the Force stop:

I recall a similar issue a few months ago but did not gather additional information at the time.
