Read/Unread message "bug"

The functionality of the Read/Unread message icon is reversed. An open envelope should mean that the message has been opened and “Read” while the closed/sealed envelope should mean that the message has NOT been opened and therefore is “Unread”.

It might also be a good idea to change the color of the dot at the bottom right of the unopened envelope to a different color as well.

If this is the intended way to display read/unread messages, could an option be added in the settings to allow this. If it is there I apologize that I missed it please point me in the right direction.

Thank you!

Items in the toolbar show what they do, not what the state of the email is. So a “read” email shows the closed envelope because the button marks it as unread.

No matter which way you do it, some users will always be confused. K-9 decided to follow Google’s guidelines here and uses the buttons as actions.

So the button shows the OPPOSITE status?

Why would you do that?

The text should reflect the functionality and an icon the status, IMHO.

Why would you not show the state of an email and leave it to end user inference?

Not a good UI design, IMHO.
