Push feature doesn't work

In my case, I have sync enabled (15min), push off, notifications off, for my IMAP INBOX.

I have a folder “priority” which is populated by IMAP server-side filtering. For this folder I have sync off, push on, notify on.

For a week, I’ve seen emails immediately in this folder. Since sync is off for this folder, I know that push has been working fine over the week, until today: no new emails shown even after 7 hours, until manual sync.

I only have two folders with push enabled, and a max of 10 set in Fetching - Advanced. And push has been working fine.

I’m reluctant to leave debug logs enabled for a week at a time; might that cause problems?

I’ve been testing K9 and Thunderbird both in 9.02b version for several days, result is, still not ideal… it sometimes works fine but sometimes not. I still think something of K9 changed after being merged with Thunderbird. the push feature is most crucial part, in another way to say, push is the only important for me, but if it doesn’t work, I’d have to think to leave K9.

I have similar issues. Push works fine but after some hours or days I don’t get any new mails. The background process is still up and running. (8.1, A15)

My conclusion is that K9 and Thunderbird are not offering perfect push now, I think something has changed. I’m trying another app called Spark that works with push well so far. probably I’ll change to Spark from K9 unless K9’s push gets fixed.

Additionally, Gmail official app hasn’t been offering real-time push, only offering sync for many years as far as I know. but the sync timing recently got much better, getting closer to real-time push. The result of my test this time shows K9’s push (Thunderbird too) is less real-time than Gmail official and Spark. push feature has been the very crucial one of K9 I thought, if it can’t fix the problem many users may leave I guess.

Yeah, push sometimes works especially when we just finished setting up, but after several hours or days it doesn’t properly work, yet the background process look fine, exactly same as your situation.

Also seeing this recently on a Samsung A54, K-9 8.1. I’m not sure if it started after a K-9 update or a Android update, though.

My symptom started after the update of K9 itself around Sep, Oct, because my phone has android 10 that hasn’t updated for at least 1 year.

For me it was running smoothly since my last posting 2 weeks ago, today it happened again. It’s really strange, I haven’t found a way to reproduce. Happy xmas!
